COVID-19 Update

Clinic status

In response to the guidance provided by our local, state and federal authorities and many national medical associations, Ginkgo Healing clinic has been temporarily closed since March 21st, when governor Pritzker’s shelter-in-place order went into effect. We want to do our part to help manage the spread of COVID-19 and flatten the curve. We plan to reopen the clinic the week of April 27th, contingent upon further guidelines from the governor and local authorities, we will continue to provide updates. In the meantime, should you require immediate attention, or need refill of your herbal formula, please reach out to Dr. Gary Xie directly, we can also arrange for phone consultation.

Protecting yourself from Coronavirus

During the period of this crisis, the concern many of us share is how can we protect ourselves and our loved ones. Quarantine is obviously the most important measure to mitigate community transmission. But for those who have to come out there are some tips to protect them and reduce the chances of infection.

Basically the virus enters the body through the nose and mouth. So two things are critical to protect us: one is to reject the virus as much as we can, that means wearing a facial mask, and wash your hands often; another is to enhance the defense ability of the mucus membrane tissues inside of the nose and mouth and throat. How to enhance the defense ability of the mucus membrane tissues in the upper respiratory system? Below are a few tips for reference:

  1. Stay hydrated: when the body is not lacking in fluids the mucus membrane tissues stay moist which is critical for strong defense ability.
  2. Naturally acidic substances such as lime, lemon, tangerine, orange, etc., are able to activate the mucus membrane tissues’ defense ability.
  3. Honey is a very good natural substance that enhance the mucus membrane tissues.
  4. Drink lemon water mixed with some honey is a good way to keep the body hydrated while activating the defense ability of the mucus membrane tissues.
  5. Rinse the mouth couple of times daily by using antiseptic Listerine, which can be a replacement of sanitizing fluids if it is short
  6. There are other natural drinks which are able to enhance the defense ability of the mucus membrane tissues, such as black tea, green tea, ginger drink, turmeric drink, and cinnamon drink, etc.

Take care, stay healthy and be safe.
